Happy Holidays! It’s time to make and confirm Holiday plans and travels for the Season. AND make your appointment so you’re looking great for the Holidays. My Holiday schedule is below. I don’t know about you, but I am emotionally exhausted. There is so much happening locally and around the world. I have to admit that some days are a bit of a challenge. Hiccups in my serenity but I’m trudging along. I hope you’re finding moments of solitude here and there, too. Ohm… Oh my, the things I wish you knew… No worries. Someone wrote a nice little article (and I have it for you) of the “7 Things Your Hairstylist and Colorist Want You to Know Before Your Next Appointment”. I’ve been dealing with issues of contact dermatitis on my hands. As time goes by our bodies just don’t defend us against the same allergens and toxins that it used to. I’m getting pretty good at narrowing down the irritating ingredients. The interesting thing, though, is that many of them are very common and in almost everything. The latest is Linalool, a compound in Lavender. Which, as you probably guessed, it in everything. It’s just nice knowing what’s causing the skin irritations and then “trying” to limit them coming into contact with my hands. That said, I have an article for you on shampoos and contact dermatitis. What are the signs and what are the symptoms. Most of you probably don’t notice or have any reactions to your shampoo or hair products. It is a good reminder to check ingredients in your haircare products and to be aware of any skin irritations. It seems like I’m always sharing something about thinning hair or hair loss. It’s a very common topic and concern for many people so you will definitely see more articles in the coming months. This month I have an article for you that delves a little into the science of thinning hair, brows, and lashes. Hair loss is a very complicated subject. There is not just one reason or even one solution. It’s important to know what’s going on up there because it could be a sign of something else going on with your health. The more you know, right! With the fires and earthquakes you can never be too prepared. I have 2 articles on putting an emergency kit together. One is a quick little shoebox of things. The other is a more extensive 72-hour kit. If you haven’t done so already, now’s the time. There’s more, but that’s just some of what I have for you this month in “As the Chair Turns”. Enjoy! 10/1/2019 0 Comments As the Chair Turns - October 2019Have I told you Orange is my favorite season?
I don’t know about you, but I was sure happy to see “Karl the Fog”. Don’t get me wrong, I love that we finally had a summer this year. It had just been TOO hot for my liking lately. One nice thing about San Francisco, though, is that if you don’t like the weather just wait a couple days and it will definitely change. There has been quite a bit of chatter recently about shampoo bars so I thought I’d pass along some information. Although they may seem new to many, solid soap shampoos were commonly used before liquid detergent shampoos became popular in the 1940’s. A little over 20 years ago Cosmetics to Go, the company that later became Lush, successfully applied for and won a patent to protect their revolutionary and exciting new invention. So, it's definitely not a “new” phenomenon. We are all wanting to be more conscientious about plastics and the environment and bar shampoos are one option to reduce wastes. Using a shampoo bar is different than a liquid so it may take a little getting used to. I have a couple articles you’ll find helpful if you’re thinking of making the switch. I have some of the best clients (yeah, that’s you) so I don’t really need to pass this information along to you, BUT… Even the most well meaning of us need an occasional reminder to put our best selves forward. That said, I have an article of salon etiquette essentials. We're all counting the hairs on our head (or in the sink). Not literally “counting, but you know what I mean. I have an article for you on things you can check so you’ll know if those hairs in the shower or brush are within normal limits. That’s just some of what I have for you this month in “As the Chair Turns”. Enjoy! It's September and you know what that means, don't you? Our "Summer" is here. It's been a pretty nice summer already, so I'm curious to find out what September brings.
We can talk about a whole lot of things when you’re getting your hair done, but the only thing I know a little something about it what’s on the top of your head. That is why you come to me, right. I am always going to have hair related articles for you, but maintaining healthy hair (and scalp) also involves a healthy body, mind, and soul (or spirit). From time to time I'm going to throw in an article or two with information on getting out & about and feeding your soul. I've been adding many of these to my list of things to do. I hope you will find them encouraging, too. My goal is to continue keeping this newsletter interesting and something you’ll want to read through each month. That said… Did you know Turmeric was good for your hair? Not only is it a great spice, but it also helps to create a healthy environment for hair growth because of it’s anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. The article I have for you has a few creative ways to include turmeric in your day. Bad haircuts happen. I know I’ve fixed a few. It might also be that a particular haircut isn't right for your face shape or hair texture (no matter how insistent you were on having it). I may have even recommended a cut you weren’t happy with. Sometimes I miss the mark. The good news is that it’s fixable. Not by you, though. It’s fixable by you coming back and letting me know what didn’t (and did) work for you. Guys, I have a nice article for you with a few easy ways to have a good hair care routine. Just changing a few habits can make sure your hair is not only looking healthy, but also neat, tidy and attractive. Believe it or not, a fairly common concern or question is about thinning hair and hair loss. I’m going to always include an article or two about either of those topics. This month I have an article about visiting a trichologist (a subset of dermatology that focuses on scalp and hair health) if you want to get to the “root” of your thinning hair concerns and an article with recommendations (pros and cons) on great hair loss products. Remember earlier I mentioned getting out and about? Well, I have articles for you on “Micro-cations”, leaving no trace, and riding a bike. That’s just some of what I have for you this month. Enjoy! Let this be your reminder that you are overdue for a hair appointment. OK, maybe not all of you but the rest of you know who you are.
Hello. Hello. Hello. I hope you’re having a nice summer and this finds you well. It has definitely been a warm, if not hot summer. A few of you even braved the extreme temperatures abroad. I’ve enjoyed your travel stories and can’t wait to hear more. I may not have any trips planned for the near future but rest assured I have been taking notes. Vacations and summer heat can wreck havoc on your hair. Last month I shared several articles with information and tips about caring for your hair in the summer. I have another article for you this month that reminds us how UV rays, chlorine, humidity, and hot styling tools can be stressful to your hair. Eating right, avoiding stress, and even how you towel dry your hair all contribute to a healthy head of locks. I have a couple articles on ways you can improve the health of your hair. I don’t think you and I have a communication problems when it comes to hair talk. Even so, you might find the 25 haircut terms helpful if and when you’re wanting to try out a new style. They might even help you understand some of the lingo I’m saying to you! There’s an article you may wonder if I’ve included it because I’m growing my own hair out. That is not completely true. I have a few guys with long hair sitting in my chair that I’m sure will find this article helpful. This men's hairstyle has hung around for a while now. The article is a well thought out tutorial and blueprint on the 5 Ws (What, When, Who, Where, and Why) and the single H (How) of the man bun, aka the bro bun. Check it out. I haven’t talked curly in a while. I stumbled across a nice article on how to add volume to curly hair. I learned this technique a few years back when I became a certified “Deva Inspired Stylist”. I hope some of you Curlies will put this Curly tip to use. That’s just some of what I have for you this month. Enjoy! |
