9/1/2022 As the Chair Turns - September 2022How’s it going? Are you having a nice Summer? I have. I've had a nice Summer so far. I’m still lying low so I haven’t been out and about much. Even so it’s been a good Summer. I think a few of you will have some Summer travel stories to share me when I see you next. I’m looking forward to hearing about what you did this Summer. Next week I’ll be taking a few days off and heading to Colorado. I’ll be away September 8th thru the 17th. You still have a little time, just a little, to get in for an appointment before I head out. So, let this be your reminder to book an appointment. This was completely unintentional. I swear. There is a little bit of a theme with this month’s newsletter. Stress has a tremendous impact on our health, our hair, and impulse decisions we make with haircuts. There is no denying that it's a crazy world out there. There are stressors and stressful situations everywhere you turn. Stress shows up in our bodies in so many different way. We physically feel it with aches and pains. Our head throbs from tension headaches. Some feel it in their gut. Even our hair can’t take chronic stress and says I am out of here. The fight or flight hormone, cortisol, if prolonged, has a negative effect on our bodies. Scientist now study hair samples as a way to spot chronic stress. I have a couple articles for you below on that research. We’ve all had those moments in our life when a dramatic haircut or bold new haircolor would make everything better. Am I right. “Some respond to stress by grasping for things they can control since life feels so out of control: Cue the new haircut and color.” Sometimes these emotional new looks work out just fine, but there are other times when that impulse decision can leave us with feelings of regret. It’s hair and it will grow. But, if it wasn't a good impulse decision you’re going to have live with it while it grows out. Thank goodness getting a hair cut or new color isn't permanent like a tattoo, right. I have an article for you on “Why Emotional Haircuts Feel So Cathartic.” One thing that’s for sure, you and I need to continue practicing good behaviors to alleviate and reduce any prolonged stress. I have some helpful tips to help with that, too. ++++++++++ This month have articles for you on Autumn hairstyle trends, debunking some men’s hair myths, a dude’s guide to conditioner, oiling mistakes that can ruin your hair, and ways to embrace growing out your gray hair. Other articles focus on how stress can cause us to make emotional hair decisions and how an old medication is being prescribe off-label to treat hair loss. Oh, and I have a baseball related article on lifting the lid on players hair secrets. All that and more so please check it out! ++++++++++ As always, I am available by email, text or phone if you have any questions or concerns. Looking forward to seeing you soon! Be Well and Take Hair!
Hey There! Is it already August or is it finally August? I can’t decide. Some days I feel like this year has been taking it’s sweet time and other times it’s just flying by. One thing I do know is that Summer is here and life is good. With summer finally here you may have or will be taking that vacation you planned and postponed months (or even years) ago. Save some stories for me because I cannot wait to hear where you traveled and what you did over the summer. I’ll be heading to Colorado early September, the 8th thru the 17th. I know that is still a month out so keep that in mind when planning your upcoming appointments. Colorado has been having triple digit temperatures this Summer, like the rest of the world unfortunately. 🥵 Oh boy! Heat and all, I’m really looking forward taking a break and spending time with my Mom. I’ve been hearing that many of you have caught COVID. I am so sorry to hear this news. I hope your symptoms have been fairly mild and you haven’t been dealing with any lingering effects. These latest variants are a pest so please try your best to limit your exposure. Since I live alone this has been fairly easy for me, but those of you with family members and loved ones around, I know this hasn’t been as easy. The exposure risks can be higher. Please just keep safe and as healthy as possible. Let’s continue to hold out a hand and lift each other up. Most days are good, but life can throw a curve ball every now and then. Read that quote above again if you need some inspiration. ++++++++++ Do you know how often and when you should get your haircut? I have some info for you about that this month. I also have articles for you on summer hair trends, guys - a better way to do salt and pepper hair, the most popular curl tool, dealing with hard water, scalp conditions that cause bumps and spots, Brad Pitt's iconic hairstyles, and 'The Bear' Braciole. All that and more so please scroll down and check it out! ++++++++++ As always, I am available by email, text or phone if you have any questions or concerns. Looking forward to seeing you soon! 7/1/2022 0 Comments As the Chair Turns - July 2022Hey There. Just checking in with you. You doing OK? Me, I’m doing OK, thanks. Some days are definitely easier (better) than others. Thank goodness for distractions, right. For me those distractions have been sports. NBA Finals. Stanley Cup. Tennis. Baseball. Just about anything other than the news. I’ve got my finger on the pulse, though, so I’m not completely out of the loop. Too much news and my day can spiral out of control real fast, that’s for sure. If it gets to that point I might as well turn out the light, pull the covers over my head and call it a day. Thankfully those “out of control” news days are few and far in between. Speaking of distractions… I stumble across a few YouTube channels with some real feel good content. I have links for a few of them under “Episodes” below. These are ordinary individuals doing extra-ordinary things for people that may have fallen a little behind with some of life’s tasks. There really are good people out there doing good deeds and wanting nothing in return (well, except for subscribers). You get my drift. Summers here. Many of you are planning long overdue vacations. I hope you have a great time where ever your adventure takes you. I'm looking forward to you sharing some of those stories with me when I see you next. An early heads up. I’ll be taking my vacation early September (the 8th through the 17th). I’ll be visiting my Mom and I have a High School Class Reunion. I know that’s a couple months out, but you’ll want to keep that in mind when planning your upcoming appointments. ++++++++++ This month it's about protecting your hair for the summer. I also have articles on what your hair and scalp say about your health, hair-wash hacks, workout hairstyles, and choosing the right hair color for your skin tone. All that and more so please scroll down and check it out! ++++++++++ As always, I am available by email, text or phone if you have any questions or concerns. Looking forward to seeing you soon! 6/1/2022 0 Comments As the Chair Turns - June 2022Hey there. How are you doing? You alright? It has been one heck of a month. I've been left speechless so many times this month, so I'm going to keep this intro short. If you or someone you know is struggling, feeling troubled, or hurting in any way, please reach out for help. Let's hold out a hand and lift each other up. This month I'm focusing on the health of your scalp and hair with articles on hair oiling: the benefits, choosing oil, and how to do it, and vitamin F for stronger strands. I also have articles on prepping your hair for warmer weather and deep side part hairstyles. All that and more so please scroll down and check it out! As always, I am available by email, text or phone if you have any questions or concerns. Looking forward to seeing you soon! Be Well and Take Hair!
5/1/2022 0 Comments As the Chair Turns - May 2022 Hello. Hello. Hello. I know I say this pretty much every month, but I truly hope you are doing well. And those of you who are “re-entering” the work space (or have already), I hope it’s going smoothly. A new routine (even though it’s really not) takes time getting used to. Please be patient with yourself and those around you. You got this! We had a couple workshops in the salon last month. One on a new haircolor line and the other on the Davines products we carry in the salon. Davines is an amazing company that prides their self on beauty and sustainability. The line has a haircare product for all the hair and scalp concerns you might have. It is treatment based for specific needs as well as focusing on your everyday haircare needs. I will never “push” products on you, but I also want you to be using the right products for your haircare needs. That’s the purpose of my newsletter, too. To help, educate, and answer any questions you might have. The news of the day (of the world) certainly hasn’t let up at all, that’s for sure. I know we (I) need to be paying attention but I also know we (I) need to make sure we’re (I’m) finding and making time to shut it off and take a break. Watching our local sports teams (Go Warriors!) is just one of the ways I “escape” from the draining news. I’m way behind on movies but just recently binged “Heartstopper” on Netflix. And Oh My, what a great series. I can’t recommend it enough. Podcasts are a great “escape”, too. I have one for you below a client recommended that is full of "spies, secrets, soviets, and leather pants". It’s a timely listen, too, considering what’s happening in the Ukraine right now. We are mask free in the salon so I am leaving it to you on whether or not you want to wear a face mask for your appointment. I’m triple vaxed so I probably will not be wearing a mask. I did have my first client last month who shared with me, well into their appointment, that they were not vaccinated. They wore their mask during their appointment, but it was a reminder there still are individual who are not vaccinated. If you have not received your vaccination(s), you must wear a mask during your appointment. Please also let me know right away so I can take any necessary precautions, which means I may need to also wear a mask. I've mentioned this before and it’s worth repeating. If you hear that a friend or co-worker’s stylist has moved or is no longer doing hair, please feel free to pass along my information. Here’s my digital business card and a QRCode you can share. *************** This month I have articles for you on translating salon-speak, TikTok's "Wet Mop", benefits of argan oil, the Choppy Lob, Dads braiding, and a history of the perm hairstyle. All that and more so please scroll down and check it out! ++++++++++ As always, I am available by email, text or phone if you have any questions or concerns. Looking forward to seeing you soon! Be Well and Take Hair!
