Gong Xi Fa Cai or 恭喜發財 Happy New Year in Chinese The more accurate translation of the traditional greeting in Cantonese is "have a prosperous New Year" with wishes for wealth and good fortune in the months ahead. Gong Xi: means wishing/blessing Fa: means enlarge(ment) Chai: means wealth This year, the start of Chinese New Year falls on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 and on the Chinese zodiac it marks the start of the Year of the Tiger. ============== Does that really mean it’s already the beginning of February? You know what that means, right? Spring is right around the corner. And I cannot wait. 2022 has gotten off to a really nice start. I cannot remember the last time so many work and personal happenings have coincided with the beginning of a calendar year. These things are usually spread out over time, aren't they? Well, that certainly hasn’t been the case this year and it’s only just started. It’s been interesting, that's for sure. If nothing changes, nothing changes, right. During good times and not so great times there is the consoling reminder that this, too, shall pass. It’s all good, though. It really is. ============== A quick note on masks. We are still wearing them in the salon. Mask mandates are beginning to loosen up (a little), though. In San Francisco beginning Feb. 1, office workers, gym members and so-called “stable cohorts” of vaccinated and boosted (if eligible) individuals may remove their face coverings indoors again. "Stable cohorts" are groups of people who get together again and again in the same places, such as a yoga class, college class or religious gathering, for example. Salons and Personal Services are and have been "stable cohorts" from the beginning. Our health and safety standards and protocols have always been exceptional. Yet, here were are once again neglected by City Officials in this latest Health Order update. I'm baffled that "indoor gyms, fitness centers, yoga studios, and other fitness or recreational facilities" where individuals are panting, sweating, and breathing heavily are a more "stable cohort" than a salon. But don't get me started. In the mean time we must be diligent in our practices and stay safe & healthy. I will continue to keep you apprised as new information becomes available. As of last week, I am now triple vaxed. J&J - April 2021 Moderna - July 2021 (supplemental booster) Pfizer - January 2022 (6 month supplemental) I'm doing my part, please do yours. Get vaxed and get your booster. I'm looking forward to the day when we can lower our masks and show the world our smiling faces again. ============== This month I have articles for you on a few things we hairdresser would like you to know, messy hair, haircuts that make you look older, good and bad things you’re doing to your hair, a feel good podcast, and an interesting stroll back through history and the hairstylist who styled the 60’s. All that and more so please check it out! ++++++++++ As always, I am available by email, text or phone if you have any questions or concerns. Looking forward to seeing you soon! Be well. Take Hair!

Happy New Year...!!! Welp, another year has passed us by. I hope along the way you were able to make some memorable moments. I’m looking forward to this coming year and the new beginnings it will bring. The last couple years have been interesting, to say the least. As challenging as they’ve been there have been some pretty wonderful moments. Trust me, there have been. Our brain has a natural tendency to notice problems, challenges and difficulties in life and they stick with us. The task before us (me) is to reflect on those “other parts” and not get stuck on the not so great parts. Seems easy, right? New year. New horizons. A new pair of glasses. I’m up for the challenge. How about you? ============== Beginning this month, I will be across the street in a new salon. I will be at 315 Sutter St. on the 4th Floor, inside Blade & Brush. I know you’ll like the space. You should have received an email from me last month with that announcement. The entrance and elevator is through the doorway just to the right of the jewelry store. The elevator drops you off right in the salon (pretty cool, huh?). I’ll also have this information in your confirmations. =============== Speaking about that new pair of glasses, I have something for you to listen to later in the newsletter that might help with self-reflection as we begin this new year. It’s about changing what we are paying attention to, not necessarily our thinking, and trying to change where we’re putting our attention. “And so if you just think about being at the end of a day. Or again, let’s use the example, since the timing is that we’re approaching the New Year, the end of the year. If what we’re paying attention to most of the time is the infection counts and the virus statistics, and the political turmoil, and our personal troubles and difficulties, then our experience of life is really painted by that kind of information, the kind of things that we’re attending to. But when we actually pay attention to the other parts of life, which is that, in my case, that I for instance have not gotten sick. I have a car that drives, that drives me around and it works fine. I have food in my refrigerator. My daughter graduated from college this year even though there wasn’t a ceremony. When we start looking at life in a more complete way, we’re much more likely, I think, to develop a genuine sense of appreciation.” =================== This month I have articles for you on the hair trends to look for in 2022, the importance of combing your hair every day, shampooing tips you wish you would have known sooner, hair towels to dry your hair without damage, and 3 life-changing questions to begin the new year. All that and more so please check it out! ++++++++++ As always, I am available by email, text or phone if you have any questions or concerns. Happy Holidays! Looking forward to seeing you soon! Be well. Take Hair!
12/1/2021 0 Comments As the Chair Turns - December 2021I hope this finds you with a full and thankful heart. I don’t know how you feel about it, but these have been rather exhausting times. Not a “boy, am I tired” kind of feeling. More because of the constant awareness we need to have in every waking movement. Should we or can we do this or that? Inside? Outside? Masks? No Masks? How many people? How close? Hugs? Am I comfortable with (fill in the blank) yet? This thinking has become such an every moment thing that we don’t even realize how exhausting it’s become. Our brain is tired. It’s no wonder we’re exhausted. We’re going to be at this for a little while longer so we’re going to need to look after our wellbeing now more than ever. Take a breath. Turn off the TV. Shut down your computer. Get some fresh air. Go for a hike. Take a walk along the waterfront. Read something frivolous. Call a friend you haven’t spoken to in a while. Start a gratitude list. Give yourself permission to do absolutely nothing. Pause. Just Be! If we keep doing the smart things we’ve been doing (exhausting as they can be) we will get through this. You got this! You really do! ++++++++++ The Holidays really are here, aren’t they. There’s still time for you to get in for an appointment before Christmas. Sundays have filled up so I’ve opened up a couple Saturdays (Dec 11th & 18th) if you need something on a weekend. I have evening appointments available, too, but you’ll need to call, email or text me to see what’s available. Just a reminder I’ll be visiting my Mom over the Christmas / New Year break. Also when I’m back in January, I’ll be across the street in a new salon. I will be at 315 Sutter St. 4th Floor, inside Blade & Brush. Your confirmations next year will have the new salon information, too. ++++++++++ This month I have articles for you on why your hair fell out this last year, debunked haircolor myths, the “Skullet”, how much your hair is worth, blowdrying fundamentals, the “blow wave”, reasons why you’re tired, and info on my new online store.
