Remove Chewing Gum From Hair

Getting gum in your hair is the absolute worst. Luckily, humble Vaseline can help remove even the stickiest chewing gum.

Isolate the section of hair that has the gum stuck in it, then work a large gob of Vaseline into the gum to break up the gum elasticity. Take breaks by wiping the gum and Vaseline mix from your hair with a paper towel, then reapply Vaseline to the gum in hair again and continue working until all the gum has been broken down and removed.

Tips to Protect Your Hair from The Summer Sun

10 Essential Tips to Protect
Your Hair from The Summer Sun

Picture
Summer is upon us! A time when your hair needs to look it’s very best and a season to let go of the perfect, sleek hairdos and embrace that loose, natural look.

But have you ever thought about the effects the sun has on your hair and scalp? Just as the sun damages your skin, it can damage your hair and scalp, too.

SO now it’s time to learn how to protect your hair from the heat, the sun, and the humidity without turning it into an endless battle this summer!

Why Protect Your Hair from the Sun?

Your hair gets harmed in many different ways during summer like overexposure to the sun’s harmful rays, sweat and spending too much time in chlorinated water AKA swimming pools.

Here are 3 common reasons:
  1. You may have healthy hair almost all year around, but when it comes to summer, your hair may turns limp and lifeless. This happens because of the burning sun (it dries out the hair straws) and high humidity (makes your hair fall flat).
  2. Sweat and dust increase hair problems like dandruff and split ends. Worst case scenario is hair fall.
  3. Summers can be harsh on your scalp too, causing dryness and sunburn. Some people believe that hair protects the scalp, but that’s actually not the case. In the end, dry scalp can damage your hair roots.
So the question is: How do you protect that crowning glory of yours? Well, let’s take a look…

1. Start Summer with a Trim or Cut
Whether you have long or short hair, the summer weather can make the ends of your hair dry and brittle – and that’s certainly not good-looking.

Summer is the ideal time to give yourself a new haircut or opt for regular trims that will keep your hair in good condition and reduce the risk of split ends, and bring back life to your hair.

2. Care for Your Colour
If you have colour-treated hair, you would want to take extra care during the summer. Chemical treatments can lead to colour fading, maximum damage and hair dryness. Look for hair care products that are specially made for colour-treated hair.

If you want to change your hair colour during the summer, do it a month or two before the sun hits hard. However, if you have recently coloured your hair, try to avoid too much sun – especially when it peaks.

3. Use Conditioner
While the sun is drying out your hair, make sure you help restore some moisture and life in it by using a solid conditioner. Get one that suits your hair type and texture.

If you are going for a swim, apply a thin layer of coconut oil or conditioner in your hair before swimming to protect it. The silicones in the conditioner will keep chlorine and other chemicals away from your hair.

4. Shampoo with Care
Shampooing your hair every day is not recommendable. A good rinse in cold or lukewarm water will do the trick on days where you don’t use shampoo.

If your hair gets greasy and sweaty easily and you feel the need to shampoo every day, go for a mild shampoo. Shampoo mainly on the scalp, not the hair, and as you wash your hair, the shampoo will rinse down cleaning up your hair too.

5. Avoid Heat & Use Heat Protection
The sun is already heating your hair, so avoid tools like flat irons and blow dryers as much as you can. Go slow on the blow dryer, and if required, wash your hair half an hour earlier so it has time to air-dry.

If you use a blow dryer, set on a low or a medium temperature and remember to use heat protection.

6. Overnight Hair Treatment
To make your locks totally ready for summer, an overnight hair treatment is a simple method. All you need to do is apply a leave-in conditioner and wrap a towel around your hair overnight. When you wake up in the morning your hair will be soft and not frizzy at all!

7. Dry Wash
Your hair is greasy and oily, and you feel shampoo is a MUST?

Then shift to Dry-shampoos. It does a good job soaking up excess oil (sebum) without causing your scalp to produce even more. It’s also a great timesaver in the morning.

8. Sun Protection
The best way to screen hair from the sun is wearing a hat, cap or scarf. If that’s not to your liking, then make sure you use a leave-in conditioner with sunscreen.

9. Going For Swim?
…Did you know, that swimming beats up your hair, too. In a swimming pool chlorine strips your hair of its natural protective oils. And a dip in the ocean stresses your hair in a different way. The heavy salt content in seawater draws water out of your hair and skin. What to do about it?

10. Use a Wide Tooth Comb
Instead of brushing your hair with a regular hair brush, use a wide tooth comb. This will avoid pulling your hair making it more susceptible to breaking.

Secret tips

There are lots of different, crazy and epic homemade ways to treat your hair, so to make your hair stay excellent during the summer season you can do more than one thing, for example…

Vinegar as an extra treatment:

Rinse your hair in vinegar before you apply shampoo. This will make your hair appear cleaner and shinier and it’s a good way to treat dandruff as well. Go for organic apple cider vinegar.

Egg & Mayo to remove dry and damaged hair:

Eggs are rich in protein and help to recover damaged hair. Take ¼ cup of plain yogurt, ¼ cup of mayonnaise, and 1 egg white. Mix the ingredients and apply it to your hair. Leave it for 30 minutes and rinse it off with water.

How To Protect Your Hair From The Pool Water

Picture
You may be thinking: “how do they protect their hair from chlorinated pools?” “Every time I go for a dip, my hair turns green or dry…”

Well, the answer is simple; they use a swim cap!

But a swim cap isn’t the most handsome thing to wear and it looks quite silly if you’re just going for a dip – even though using a swim cap keeps your hair dry and prevents it from making contact with the metals in pool water.

So how do you protect your hair from the pool water?  Well, guys let’s take a look..

Who is Particularly at Risk for Chlorine Damage?
Everyone who regularly exposes their hair in chlorine water, risks damage, but some hair types are more at risk than others. If your hair type meets the following criteria, you’ll have to take extra care…

    1.    Color Treated hair (especially if your hair is blonde)
    2.    Dry Hair
    3.    Thin or Fine Hair
    4.    Previously Damaged Hair

Rinse Your Hair with Clean Water Before…
We spend all spring plotting our perfect summer hair color, only to have it turned to green, dry og frizzy the first time we go swimming, but shower before can solve the problem. Showering before entering the pool sounds a little silly, but really if you rinse your hair with clean tap water it’ll be harder for the pool water to work its way in and cause damage.

Wet Your Hair, Don’t Shampoo it
It’s important to avoid using shampoo before jumping into the pool. Shampoo reacts negatively with chlorine water and causes your hair to dry out. So remember, the only thing you have to do is to rinse your hair with CLEAN WATER before hitting the pool!

Apply Oil or Conditioner
Apply a thin layer of coconut oil or conditioner in your hair before swimming to protect it. Oil will act as a barrier between your hair and chlorinated water. The silicones in the conditioner will keep chlorine and other chemicals away from your hair. It will also keep your hair tangle-free.

After Swimming: Rinse Your Hair Immediately
Rinsing your hair with clean water after swimming is also very important, because the longer the chlorine remains in your hair, the more damage it will cause.

If it’s possible, it’s a good idea to use shampoo and some conditioner immediately after you exit the pool. Some shampoos are specially made to help remove chlorine and is a great solution for regular swimmers. If you want to bring a shampoo and conditioner in your swim bag, get By Vilain Skyline Travel Duo. Or use a Leave-In Conditioner – just work the conditioner through your hair after swimming, then gently detangle with the comb.

Let Your Hair Air-dry

If you use a blow dryer right after a pool day, set on a low or a medium temperature – OR EVEN BETTER – let your hair air-dry!

Even though we always recommend you to use a blow-dryer while styling your hair, it’s much better for your hair to air-dry after swimming in pool water. Let your hair dry slowly and use a wide tooth comb!

Tip if Your Hair is Already Damage

TALK TO YOUR HAIRSTYLIST!
If your hair is already chlorine damage, go to a pro. He or she will recommend products or treatments to help. Remember, you can always get a haircut to remove the ends that have suffered the most damage.

(Secret tip) USE KETCHUP!
If you’re blonde and your hair has turned green after swimming a tip is to use Ketchup as shampoo to correct the green tones.

YES we know – it sounds weird and disgusting – BUT it helps!

What to do: Shampoo your hair and rinse it out. Apply ketchup in your hair and leave it in for a couple of minutes, then rinse it out. Shampoo your hair again and use conditioner if needed. If you already have tried this secret tip, let us know if it worked!

How to Pull off a Cool Haircut at Work

Picture
Now, some men are thorough when it come to how they look; and while many have given advice to dress up for the job, what they didn’t add is to apply the same principle with hairstyles.

Working professionals such as yourself shouldn’t stick with the notion of just suiting up to impress, you also have to get yourself cleaned up to keep up a respectable image.

And that goes for what hairstyle you are currently going for.

There are some guys who can easily pull-off a ragged look and just as easily turn it into a sleek, classy style the next, they have no qualms when it comes to rocking an office haircut which is a talent in itself.

So for those, who are still a little bit lost on how to present themselves with utmost confidence, here are some tips for you on how you can pull off a cool haircut at work!

Know Your Hair & Face and Familiarize

Ask yourself first, if the current hair trend you want is applicable to the type of hair you are sporting. You definitely need to determine what type of hair style goes well for you. We’re talking about the texture of your hair, the shape of your face, and your facial features.

A lot of guys make a mistake on just winging their haircuts just because they find the hairstyle cool but when they attempt to copy the look it just doesn’t work for them.

Whoever said taking a big leap without thinking is a good way to go, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

Don’t fall into the trap. Familiarize yourself with the overall structure of your head: hair and face.

The Right Hairstyles

Don’t be discouraged that just because you have curly hair doesn’t mean you can’t have that clean-swept and sleek hairdo.

You’d be surprised there are ways to accomplish a certain hairstyle without jeopardizing your current look.

All you need to do is look for some comparison. You already have a good resource for this – the Internet.

Go through some styles which you think are right for you and will make you look dapper and respectable.

Consider Your Work Environment

While a youthful and extraordinary hairstyle certainly have its merits, it is also important to be mindful of your surroundings, your work environment in particular.

So if you are considering a striking change of style, just be sure that it would be appropriate for your current job and how will your co-workers, bosses, and clients perceive your chosen look.

Ask the Experts

If your indecisions are still holding you back from achieving that perfect work style, it’s time to ask the experts.

Take the time to understand on what they have to say because they can help you identify what type of look would best suit you.

It also helps if you brought some of the photos of hairstyle you’re eyeing on so that they have an idea what you also want, that way it’s more of a collaborative work.

Stick with the Classics

Despite the fact that there are plenty of hairstyle trends suitable for a modernize look, we can’t deny that the classics still resonates with us the most.

Take inspiration from all the classics. You have a number to choose from! Not to mention that the vintage are making a comeback this year but with a modernized spin to it. This will surely give you a sense of professionalism with an addition of the ‘classic’ appeal.

You want a fail-safe look? Then your top answer would be to go for a classic cut!]
